Surgeons and surgical services in South Africa
One of our surgical registrars (residents) is also completing a PhD on the topic of surgeon and surgical services in South Africa. There is no central repository of data pertaining the either the surgical needs nor the surgical services or surgical human resources of South Africa. This leaves us unable to plan for either service delivery or for future training.
South Africa has a very low number of physicians per 1,000 of our population. The graph below indicates the problem comparing us to similar developing countries, but also to the developed nations. Hover over elements in the graph with your mouse pointer for more information.
The KRG assisted in preparing research questions and in the data analysis and we all look forward to the completion of this dissertation.
